Breast cancer is an illness that affects the tissue of the breast gland. It happens to 1 out of 8 women in their lifetime. It is considered an ancient type of cancer tumors among people. In the United States, more
women die of breast cancer than any other cancers aside from lung cancer. Women between the ages of 45 to 55 die usually of breast cancer. Breast cancer may be the type of cancer that we know but male breast cancer also exists and one percent of all cancer deaths occur in the male population. Breast cancer normally starts with the appearance of a small localized tumor. Tumors are classified as benign, which means they do not attack other tissues and some are malignant or become cancers. Tumors that are malignant may tend to scatter. Possible factors like family history and age cannot be controlled while weight, smoking and poor diet can be changed.
The possibilities for a woman to acquire cancer are high if the mother, sister or daughter had breast cancer. The possibility is lesser if one has a short menstrual cycle, big family or having a child before 18 years old. Meanwhile, the breast cancer possibility for men is lesser, just 1.08 per 100,000 men annually. At present, the incidence rate seems to be increasing. The other factors for having a breast cancer are using hormone replacement therapy, being overweight, using birth control pills, taking alcohol, childlessness or having a first child after 35 years of age or having thick breasts. Higher alcohol intake adds to the possibility of acquiring breast cancer. Among the different types of cancer, breast cancer comprises an estimated 7.3 percent. Breast cancer symptoms are lumping in the breast, size and shape variation of breast and nipple discharge. The majority of breast cancers are benign or not cancerous. Benign breast tumors are not ordinary lumps; however, they do not extend the breast area and are not dangerous to life.
