The Chicago north-side continues to be a cursed place. In April 2008, the Cubs will enter their 99th season without a World Series title.

Arizona pitcher, Livan Hernandez, through six innings pitched, had given up five Cub hits, walked five, and hit one batter. Eleven base-runners, 1 Cub
 run.

Cubs legend Ron Santo sang "Take Me Out to the Ballgame" during the 7th inning stretch.

"All right Cub fans, we need a lot of help! This is for you! This game is not over!"

After a 3-game sweep of the Cubs by the Diamondbacks in the divisional playoff round, you almost wish the Cubs could have forfeited this last game, a 5-1 loss, instead of giving us all yet more pain and sadness.

"Let's get some runs!" Santo called out to the 42,157 in attendance. But it was not to be.

The closest thing to a rally came in the 8th inning, in Santo's imagination. Noticing Arizona closer, José Valverdé, loosening up in the bullpen and getting ready for the 9th inning, Santo relished a Cub comeback and victory, especially with Valverdé on the mound.

"Don't get me wrong," Santo said. "He's good. Very good. Had 47 saves on the season..."

"But he's a hot-dog. A hot-dog with lots of mustard!"

Me and my radio can't wait 'til spring training.
